"Go to Jail but Stay Alive!"
"Then I
left him a voice mail message", his mother said. "My Benny, call me back when
you can. I'm very worried about you, look after yourself, remember what your
mother told you: Don't let anyone come near you. I permit you to open fire, even
if this isn't written in the rules of engagement. If you open fire, in the worst
case you'll go to jail but you'll still be alive. Do me a favor, don't believe
anyone, you're so innocent. Learn from your mother to look after yourself and
your comrades." But by then he was dead. [From the Israeli press, March
2002]

The Honenu
organization provides aid for the "indirect
victims" of continued Arab terrorism - those who have been forced to respond in
real-time to genuine threats on their own or on others' lives, and as a result,
have become entangled in a web of legal difficulties with tremendous financial
